A Brief Note About The Collection
by Evan Schafer

It is a rare thing, indeed, to witness the creative processes of an artist at work. I have always found myself interested in this process, whether it be that of a musician, writer, photographer, filmmaker or otherwise. On this very comprehensive collection of tracks, not only will the listener be able to flick through the scope of three years' worth and even more album sessions' worth of unused and unfinished material, but they will also be able to discern the through-line of what the intention was, or why it didn't end up working by the time the record was completed.

Many tracks on here I have grown to love in their incompletion, as there are most definitely memories associated with them along with the tracks on the final records. On here, I hark all the way back to 2010, starting with a solo piano demo that I recorded during my time at University of the Arts, going all the way up to 2013, with a demo recorded during the What's For Breakfast sessions. Many of these tracks also feature some kind of orchestration, whether it be a string section on a few tracks, or overdubs of my own, but each stands as a testament to the process of developing a work of art, completed or not. I also have included here a 10-minute-long fragment of a session with my father, Bill, that documents the trial and error of laying down a track in real-time.

I hope that those who are familiar with my music can take the hour to listen to this collection and equally appreciate the works within as they might when putting on the records from which these tracks originated and grew out of at their infancy stages.

about

Evan Schafer Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

My name is Evan Schafer. I am an indie musician with a strong grounding in traditional composition, but the material always has a unique flair. I guarantee not being bored out of your gourd when turning on one of the records. I produce, mix, and engineer everything myself, and have done so since late 2005. ... more
